The questioner needs to be asking questions about the text that cover the three levels; literal, inferential and evaluative.

LITERAL: Right there in the text

INFERENTIAL: Think and Search

EVALUATIVE: Beyond the book, Author and me

The clarifier seeks to clarify any unfamiliar vocabulary or concepts in the part of the text thgroup has just read.

Group members are encouraged to seek clarification of words, phrases or concepts in the text which are unclear.

Predictions are checked against the text, with thoughts and opinions being confirmed or modified at the end of the independent reading time.

The summariser gives a ‘snapshot’ of the main ideas or gist of the text
